DAY TWO (well, there was a bit of day two in day one's diary but who gives a flying...)
10:50 PM
Glow Bar - first gig
We're on at midnight here, and in every other venue we play over here. A nice late one!
Earlier on we went out for a bite to eat, and all stuck with a safe kebab. For some unknown reason, Speed "magic doorknob" Harris and myself got given a nice warm cup of black tea afterwards, but the rest of our merry band were not treated with such kindness. Despondent, we wandered back to the hotel. An hour or so later we ventured out for cake, which was a truly award-winning move. Chocolate eclairs were the order of the day. Twice! Adrian "is gravity stronger in Turkey?" Swift went for something very odd looking for his second round - he tells me it's called "baklava", but it looked like a dodgy green sausage roll!
A short while later it was time to roll out to the venue. We discovered our amps onstage - not the best we'd hoped for, but the sound was passable. Swifty had to spend some time navigating his "gold shitbox" (Boss GT-6), but didn't encounter too many user errors so we were off and running pretty fast. I missed Speed's ever-present bowel-churning volume, but it felt tight as ever onstage. Then it was off for food (I went for pasta - the others went for chicken, chips, chips, chips and chips). Sounds like we're eating a lot, doesn't it?
I'm currently sat backstage at the venue and waiting for midnight to roll around (we should hit the stage at precisely 23:58...)
3:30 AM
Otel
We were very good tonight. I had a dodgy "Aces High", and Speed tells me he wasn't quite right til "Revelations", but from then on it was top hole. The crowd were massively loud - they were singing the riffs, and I even heard people singing along to my solo in "Phantom..." ! Beautiful. Crowds abroad are always a surprise. I think I'm going to have to buy some plectra at some point - if the demand for them is as strong as it was tonight, I won't have any by the time we get to Izmir! Nicko "just kick his face off" McBrain Jnr's sticks were also in demand, but he'd gone through two pairs through the course of the gig anyway. He don't half hit them tubs hard, boys and girls.
We have a 1:00 PM lobby call, then it's back to the venue to collect the gear and off to Ankara by train. The tour continues!
