HI-ON IPSWICH
Pre gig ramble...
Well, once again I took five seperate trains to the gig (three overground, two under). That's rock and roll. That's dedication. That's what happens when you don't drive.
Nicko "Shut up you fat *****" McBrain Junior had booked his own transport this weekend, and succeeded in winding up at the wrong train station. Insert drummer joke here. A quick call to me set him right, and he soon joined me at the venue. The other 3/5 of the band turned up fashionably late, which isn't a good idea at this venue as there seem to be time limits on just about everything imaginable. You just don't get that anywhere else! (Except Fibbers.....). Speed I'll have some chips with me salt" Harris started setting up. Adrian "He's been hiding his big pink thing" Swift's gear was ready an hour later...
Once set up we ventured to the chippy next door. Another healthy Hi-On Maiden dinner was consumed in the upstairs room at the venue. We're going to be competing with the rugby tonight, which will be interesting. Plus, I just can't get in the mood - I've never felt this not-up-for-it before. It's a combination of the venue restrictions, the rugby, the slight fault with my guitar (nothing a spark can't fix) and the night out I had last night. In that order!
------------
Post gig ramble...
The gig went pretty well, no major smelly moments (apart from Mister Swift's fear of Fear Of The Dark). My lack of energy was no longer a problem after Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. Mariner was particularly storming this week, and Hallowed had SO much vibe - it's amazing how sometimes a song you've played at every single gig can be so fresh. Bruce "Matron! Take him away!" Dugginson put in a particularly spectacular performance, despite being completely wiped out from gigging the night before with another band. What a pro! We were very conscious of the time throughout the gig, and finished up the main set at about 10:55. Despite the strict "You must be off by 11pm" rider I received upon arrival at the venue, we were then told it was OK to carry on and do our 3-song encore. Ha! Take that Fibbers!
----------
Home!
I stayed in a wonderful but very very weird hotel, while the others all drove home. I had a very nice kip and a lesiurely breakfast before hopping on the ol' public transport to get home, where I arrived at about 2pm this afternoon. I feel much more relaxed than is usual after a gig trip, but then this was a bit closer to home. Props to Nicko Jnr and Mrs Nicko Jnr who gave me a lift to the hotel (don't ever trust internet directions - local colour gets you there quicker!).
Looking forward to our upcoming trip to Belgium and Holland (via Southend). Unfortunately, Young McBrain can't make it (git) so we're dragging Mr Dave "It's the final countdown!" Shaw out with us once more. The Holland gig has already sold out!!! Fantastic news.
Next year's gig list (as it stands at the moment) will be going up on the website soon, and will be updated with fresh dates (and damsons!) as soon as I have them. Until next time...
