HI-ON WORKINGTON
Saturday 6th October 2007
Carlisle railway station, 3:15 p.m.
I landed from my holiday at 1 a.m. this morning. I got home at 2:45, went to bed at 3:00, and got up at 7:00. I packed my bag and left early to get to Kings Cross by 10:30 for my train here..
Then I slept!
I'm really looking forward to this gig - the old team back together (Matt and Joe are both with us for the first time since York). It's also the first gig since Heacham in August. Having been away more than I've been at home since then I haven't practised all that much, and am bound to be a bit rusty. When you factor in the tiredness, I'm quietly confident that I'll be totally shite. I asked for a caffeine I.V. at the cafe here, but the best he could do was a small mocha. There's supposed to be chocolate in it somewhere, but I have yet to locate it.
I'm waiting for the 3:45 which will take me to Workington station, merely half a mile from the venue. Whereupon I will wait for the rest of the band in a horizontal position with my eyes closed. Or propped up at the bar. Whichever takes my fancy when I get there!!!
------
Monroe's Bar, Workington: 5:15 p.m.
Easy trip here from Carlisle - 45 minutes on a train to Workington and a ten minute walk from there. The support band are here, but no-one from the venue seems to be. Weird.
The rest of the lads are just under an hour away (hopefully). The support band (Censored) are doing a bit of recording, and are very loud! Earplugs in then...
I'm hoping there's some sort of dressing room. I am in dire need of a shave.
------
A couple of days later!
Well, the gig was pretty good. We played very well, especially considering the 7 weeks that had elapsed since the last show. There were a couple of smelly moments, but no more than usual. My new guitar was GORGEOUS to play - so easy! I really enjoyed this gig, as this is the line-up that feels perfectly right now. A couple of our fans in the audience thought I looked like Johnny Vegas. I'm not sure how to take that! After the gig we piled back to Matt's house and kipped down til it was time to head off. Swifty drove Joe and meself to Doncaster to catch the train back to Londonium, and I arrived home about 7pm.
After my recent tiring travels I'm far too knackered to write the usual essay, so please forgive the slightly sub-standard diary this time around. Suffice it to say, we had a laugh, a good gig, and absolutely no appalling accidents in the gents...
