HI-ON TURKEY
Tuesday 26 February 2008 - Very Early Morning.
Speed "magic duvet!" Harris arrived at around 00:40, and the trip officially began. We sat up chatting for a while, and Speed introduced me to Unencyclopedia.org (which will simply have to be added to the links page of the website - the Maiden article is pant-wettingly funny). We also discussed such things as 'Scraping Foetus Off The Wheels' and other oddball band names until we both decided it was sleepytime. We will be getting on a train at about 10AM to meet up with Nicko "get it out!" McBrain Jnr at London Bridge, and henceforth towards Luton Airport for our flight to Istanbul.
Istanbul, Turkey - 8.30 PM local time
The Van
Well, f*ck my old boots. We're rock stars now!!!!!!!!!
Travel here was nice and uneventful, we've just arrived and were piled into a rather luxurious van. It's a bit of a culture shock - we don't even normally have f*cking seats!!!
We met up with Adrian "user error" Swift and Big "don't mention me in the diary" Dickinson at Luton Airport around 12 noon and checked in with the help of a very nice man who didn't even weigh our guitars for baggage weight restrictions!! (which is good, as we were already £60 over!).
9.30 PM
Now sitting on a train. Very nice and plush and quiet. With beer!
Wednesday 27th February -10:00 AM
Eskisehir, Turkey - some hostel
We arrived into Eskisehir at around 3AM local time, and were told by our fantastic promoter Firat that they hadn't been able to call the woman who'd sorted out our hotel, so we'd stay in an 'emergency' hotel until 12 noon. Your humble narrator had consumed one too many bottles of 'water' on the train and opted to go straight to me bed, while the other four chaps went wandering around the city. Normally I love wandering around cities at 3 in the morning, but not this time - sleep was the order of the day. The lads found a giant turtle, amongst other things, and a big old bridge with Christmas lights - Turkey at Christmas! (snare, tom, crash - he's here all week ladies and gentlemen, try the salad!)
12:30 PM
Otel Sal Kat2
We meandered along to the venue to dump some stuff backstage. The place looks like it'll be a good venue - and I've never seen so many posters in one place! The posters say we're from Manchester, which is causing me no end of amusement - all the places that this band come from, and they go and pick a place that none of us come from! Superb.
We then walked to our hotel, about 5 minutes away from the venue. It's quite nice - a step up from last night's accomodation (not that we minded that much - a bed is a bed!). I've managed to get on the wi-fi thing here, and I thought it would be cool to put this diary up as-it-happens. So here ya go! More as we have it...
